Why I Do What I Do: Because Teachers Deserve a Dream Life Too

For years, my life looked the same.

Wake up.

Go to work.

Handle behavior data.

Attend meetings.

Grade papers.

Come home.

Repeat.

As a behavior teacher, I love what I do. I love helping students grow, supporting families, and celebrating the little victories that most people never see. Teaching has always been more than a job for me—it’s part of who I am.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something.

I had spent so much time building a meaningful career that I forgot to build a meaningful life outside of school.

Every day seemed centered around lesson plans, behavior charts, progress monitoring, paperwork, and preparing for tomorrow. If I wasn’t at work, I was thinking about work.

One day I asked myself a simple question:

What am I doing for me?

Not for my students.

Not for my school.

Not for my coworkers.

For me.

That question changed everything.

I started exploring things that brought me joy. I began taking myself on little adventures. I learned that it’s okay to enjoy luxury on a teacher budget. I started trying new restaurants, learning tennis, creating content, writing blog posts, and dreaming bigger than the walls of my classroom.

And you know what I discovered?

Teachers deserve dream lives too.

Somewhere along the way, many educators begin believing that sacrifice is the only path. We convince ourselves that exhaustion is normal. We feel guilty for spending money on ourselves. We forget that we are people before we are teachers.

I created BossLady Blooms because I want to help change that mindset.

I want teachers to know there is a wonderfully full, exciting, beautiful life waiting outside of behavior data and grading papers.

A life filled with:

  • Weekend adventures
  • Solo dates
  • Cute outfits
  • New hobbies
  • Travel plans
  • Financial goals
  • Personal growth
  • Self-care
  • Luxury experiences on a realistic budget

I want teachers to stop putting their lives on hold until summer break, retirement, or “someday.”

Your life is happening right now.

That doesn’t mean you stop being a great teacher.

It means you become a great teacher who also enjoys being a human being.

Through this blog and my social media, I hope to inspire teachers to dream bigger. I want to show that you can love your students and love your own life at the same time.

You can be passionate about teaching and still book the spa day.

You can collect behavior data and still learn tennis.

You can attend ARD meetings and still enjoy five-star restaurants.

You can care deeply about your students while also caring deeply about yourself.

The truth is, the happiest teachers I know are not the ones who sacrifice everything.

They’re the ones who have built lives they love both in and out of the classroom.

That’s what BossLady Blooms is all about.

Helping educators bloom beyond the school building.

Because when teachers thrive, everybody wins.

And if you’re reading this, consider this your reminder:

Your dream life doesn’t begin after teaching.

It begins alongside it.
